Citizen's Advocacy Workshop March 5th 2011
This is a critical time for Democrats to be informed and involved, particularly when Governor Perry and the Republican-controlled Texas legislature propose to cut up to $27 billion in spending from the next budget. This spending cut will likely result in the firings of tens of thousands of teachers, closure of community colleges, elimination of tuition support for 60,000 college students, closure of correctional facilities, and drastic reductions in state services for the poor, elderly, and young and for those with mental health problems.
In response, the Democratic Party of Collin County is launching a State Legislative Accountability Initiative to monitor this year's legislative proceedings and hold our elected officials accountable for the decisions they make. To do this effectively, we need your help!
Please join us as we launch this initiative on Saturday, March 5 from 9am-12pm with our kickoff event - a workshop on Citizen's Advocacy in Rm BB132 at Spring Creek Campus of Collin College (2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX 75074). This hands-on event is designed to provide basic information and skills for effectively lobbying public officials and raising public awareness on issues that are most important to us. Participants will help form the backbone of our advocacy network for the next 3 months. Email
