Democrats Pack the House for Barack Obama's Acceptance Speech

A packed house of over 400 Collin County Democrats cheered on Senator Obama as he accepted his nomination for President of the United States from Denver last night. The Democratic National Convention was aired on all TVs at Prince Bistro Eatery, and partygoers listened attentively as Obama painted a compelling picture of hope and change for America. Obama drew some of the loudest cheers from the crowd when he shouted "Eight is enough" referring to the eight years of the Bush Administration. One party attendee said, "I've voted Democrat for 10 years but this is the first time I've gotten politically active. I'm so excited about the opportunity to change Collin County and the United States. "

Everyone was given yard signs and bumper stickers for Obama and other federal and local candidates, several of whom were there to meet the voters. Jean Power and Victor Manuel, candidates for County Commissioner were present, as were Glenn Melancon and Tom Daley, both running for U. S. House of Representatives.  County Chair Dan Dodd remarked "We are looking for a historic Democratic turnout in Collin County this election cycle to support our first African American nominee.  The enthusiasm displayed tonight for all our candidates was fantastic!"

Glenn Melancon, TX Congressional 4th District stated, "I'm proud to have a strong candidate at the top of our Democratic ticket. Our nation needs leaders with a working moral compass.  We can make our government work for all Americans."

Tom Daley, TX 3rd Congressional District, stated,  "It was energizing to be with the people of Collin County as they responded to Senator Obama's inspiring vision for a better future, which he laid out in his historic acceptance speech. With Senator Obama heading our ticket, the longing shared by everyone in Collin County for peace and prosperity will be transformed from Republican slogans to reality delivered by Democrats."

Yard signs and bumper stickers are now available at the Democratic Party of Collin County Headquarters,  2504 Ave. K, Suite 200, Plano, TX 75074
