Spanish Speaking High School Student Citizens Eligible to Serve
Election Advisory Sent by the Texas Secretary of State Emphasizes Legal Requirements for Collin County Democratic Primary Election to be Held on Tuesday, March 2nd.
The County Party is responsible for running the March 2nd Democratic Primary in Collin County on behalf of the State of Texas, and we are doing our best to follow the law and provide almost every Democratic Primary polling place in Collin County with one or two election clerks that have Spanish language skills to assist Spanish-speaking citizens exercising their right to vote guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
We need to recruit a total of about 115 Spanish speaking election clerks to cover the 65 polling places we are staffing for the Collin County Democratic Primary.
Please note: High school student citizens at least 16 years old are allowed to serve as student election clerks under a special provision of Texas law, with permission from their school principal (and parents, of course, with the parent's permission in lieu of the principal's if the student is home-schooled).
No prior experience is necessary, and mandatory training will be provided. These are official positions as election workers, and those serving will be paid $8.50 per hour for his or her work. Student election clerks will be paid at the same rate.
This year, we will have the the largest number of Democratic Primary Election Day polling locations in the history of Collin County -- 65 -- but we need your help to provide the necessary people power for the process to work properly and provide voters with an efficient voting experience. In addition to the Spanish speaking election officials we are seeking, we are also looking for a few more election judges to serve in a few locations.
If you or someone you know or love want to be a part of this Collin County history, please email both Dick Hildenbrand, our Democratic Primary Administrator, and Jamie Ramirez, our Deputy Primary Administrator, by sending a single email to elections@collindems.us with your name, address (with street, city and zip code), and your phone number as soon as possible.
Please call us at 972.578.1483 if you have any questions.
Thank you for your interest in helping all citizens exercise their right to vote!
Sincerely,

D. Shawn Stevens
County Chair
