The Vice-Chair plays a critical role in the County Party, and the person that accepts the position takes on a great responsibility of leadership. The Vice-Chair must focus on helping to build the party in a way that makes us the strongest, most functional organization we can be, and I have confidence Steve Bolden can be counted on to help keep us on task towards meeting that goal.
Steve has been a strong presence in our party, as he has been serving as the General Counsel for the Party for some time now. Not only will he continue in that role, but as Vice-Chair, according to our Bylaws he will also now serve as the Chair of the Administration Committee, of which he has been a member.
Since last fall, the Administration Committee under Marlene Byndon's leadership had been working on a needed top to bottom review of our organizational structure. Additionally, as was instructed in the Strategic Plan unanimously approved by the County Executive Committee on August 25th, the Administration Committee has been working on revising our Bylaws, which have never been modified by the CEC since their original passage in 2004. With Marlene's unfortunate cancer diagnosis and subsequent resignation in early December, we need a Vice-Chair that will continue working on those important tasks that Marlene was so capably handling. The goal is to have these necessary housekeeping matters wrapped up by the beginning of the new County Executive Committee term on May 3rd, so at that point we can fully direct our attention to the General Election in November.
Previous appointee Deborah Hyatt submitted her resignation to me on Friday, February 5th, and given that we have necessary foundational tasks to finish in order to complete the transition to my administration as your new County Chair, I acted without delay to name her replacement.
As provided by our Bylaws, Mr. Bolden began serving in an acting capacity as Vice-Chair beginning today, and his appointment will need to be confirmed at the County Executive Committee meeting on February 23rd.
Precinct Chairs, please welcome Mr. Bolden to this new role. Please give him your full support as he generously donates his time and impressive skills to the crucial foundation building work underway.
D. Shawn Stevens
