Democratic Party of Collin County Retires Debt

Due to the success of the Ann Richards Fundraiser, our sustaining membership donors and other fundraising efforts, at the August 25th County Executive Committee meeting, the Precinct Chairs in attendance voted to completely retire the Democratic Party of Collin County's remaining debt from the $38,000+ expense of the 2008 County Convention, while maintaining viable finances.

The March 2008 gathering of Collin County Democrats was the largest political convention ever to be held in Collin County by any political party, as well as the largest event ever to have been held at the Frisco Conference Center, Collin County's largest indoor venue that is not a church building.

County Chairman Shawn Stevens said, "The Democratic Party of Collin County held one of the largest county or senatorial district conventions in Texas in the March 2008 Primary season, and we have a lot to be proud of in that we were able to host such a historic gathering of thousands of Collin County Democrats on such short notice.   It was an expensive venture to accommodate all those Democrats, but we did it, learning lessons in the process, and we are grateful to everyone that helped contribute to make it happen, including the generous underwriters that provided the initial financing for the event, and all of the many contributors that have helped us retire the debt to our underwriters.  Thank you one and all."
