May 26, 2009: Voter ID Update

TDCCA Legislative update/Voter ID

As you probably know, Democrats have slowed the legislative process on local & consent bills to prevent the Voter ID bill from coming to the floor.  However,Rep. Dunham met with the speaker about suspending the rules to bring up SB 362 (Voter ID).  Rep. Dunham also wanted to enter a point of order.  House rules state after a committee passes a bill it has 3 days to file the minutes of the meeting or the bill becomes inelgible.  Rep Dunham presented the speaker with a copy of the minutes that was stamp dated 7 days later.
I expected the bill to come up today.

However, 59 Republicans signed a statement that they would not vote to suspend the rules and the House would have to follow the order of bills on the calendar.

Keep tuned to the funny farm.
