May 20, 2009: SB 1569 Unemployment Insurance

Dear fellow Democrat,

The Texas Senate has already voted to make necessary changes in law to accept $555 million in federal unemployment insurance assistance. Tomorrow, the Texas House will consider the bill, SB 1569, and your State Representative needs to hear from you.
Gov. Rick Perry's political posturing over the economic recovery funds threatens Texas workers and businesses. Now is your chance to tell your lawmakers that you're concerned with economic recovery for Texas - not political recovery for Gov. Perry.
In tough economic times, we should be able to count on our elected officials to work to get things back on track. However, Perry's rejection of the much-needed unemployment insurance funds couldn't come at a worse time - these funds would provide additional benefits for unemployed Texas job-seekers put out of work by this Republican recession. And our small businesses would also suffer - the deficit in our unemployment fund will trigger a deficit tax on Texas employers - an increase that could double the unemployment tax burden of the average Texas employer.
Call your State Representative and ask him or her to support Texas' workers and businesses by voting in favor of SB 1569.
