Your action is urgently needed. SB 317, the Republican authored bill that would limit voters' choices by denying them the ability to cast a straight ticket vote will come before the Senate tomorrow.

At a time when more Texans are choosing to cast a straight ticket vote, the voters have already sent a message to legislators that they oppose SB 317 and want the option to cast a straight ticket vote. In 2008, a record number of Texas voters used the straight ticket option to select the candidates of their choice.Yet, proponents of this legislation suggest that a voter who casts a straight party ticket is somehow making a less educated choice than a voter who makes their selections one race at a time.

Call your State Senators and let them know that when you cast a straight Democratic vote, it isn't because you don't know who the candidates are, it's because you've made the choice that the Democratic Party best represents your ideals and that you want Democrats representing you. Ironically, Republican voters who choose to cast a straight party ticket, undoubtedly feel the same way.
