Dear fellow Democrat,
Your action is urgently needed. Now that House Elections Committee Chairman Todd Smith allowed SB 362, the restrictive Senate version of the Republican voter ID bill, to be voted out of his committee, Speaker Joe Straus will determine when and if the bill will be debated by the Texas House next week. Speaker Straus has an important choice to make: he can preserve the bipartisan cooperation needed to resolve important issues in the closing days of the session, or he can bow to the will of the most extreme partisans in his party and put this unnecessary and divisive Voter ID bill on the House Calendar.

Thank you for helping us protect Texans' voting rights - and thank you for being Democrats.

Instead of placing a priority on cutting insurance premiums, reining in skyrocketing college tuition rates and providing health care for a million Texas kids without insurance coverage, Republicans have made their bogus partisan agenda their highest priority. The House has no business placing a partisan Voter ID agenda ahead of the important issues that touch the lives of millions of Texans every day.
Now is the time to speak out against a Voter ID bill that would make it harder for many Texans to vote.
Speaker Joe Straus has the power to decide if SB 362 is considered before the full House. Call Speaker Straus' office and tell him to focus the House's efforts on real priorities instead of threatening Texans' right to vote.
Then contact your State Representative and tell your legislator to oppose SB 362 and spend the closing days of the session working to resolve more urgent state priorities.
