May 6, 2009: Voter ID Alert

This week there is a possibility that the voter ID bill could come up.  Of the 76 Republicans in the House of Representatives, 71 signed a statement of principal that they would only support a bill that is photo ID only.  No other options were considered.  That leaves 5 Republicans uncommitted at this time.
Todd Smith, chairman of the committee, has been trying to mitigate this issue to make it acceptable, but is having difficulty.  Since the bill has not come up at this point, there must me some problems getting the votes needed.
We really need to put the pressure on our local State Representatives, regardless of party, to vote down this bill.  There is a possibility we might even keep it from coming to the floor for a vote.
To contact the office of your Representative call 1888 836 8368 and ask for the office of your Representative.  We need to keep Democrats together and gain 3 Republican votes.
P.S. don't forget e-mails as well.
