To County Chairs,

 

I spent last week in Austin meeting with Legislators and staffers discussing numerous issues.

Bills are still being written and submitted and will be until next week.  Bills are now being assigned to committee.  However, I did attend a couple of committee hearings but they are only in the organization stage so discussions on bills will come later.

 

The big issue on the table at the moment is the impact of the President's stimulus package.

Representative Dunnam is the Chair of the select committee on the Recovery Act and is currently holding hearings. There is still a lack of clarification on the "small print" of how these funds are distributed.

The use of these stimulus funds should free up funds in the states general revenue for other programs.

Programs that require matching funds may meet with resistance from the Governors office.
